Welcome to Glasto.co.uk - Everything you need to know about Glastonbury in Somerset!

The Glastonbury festival is approaching it’s 40th birthday and is rapidly embedding itself into folk law in the UK. Every year a quarter of a million of us trudge down to a small farm in Somerset with our wellies and sleeping bag, for five days of mud and music fuelled fun.

The birth of Glastonbury began in the 1970’s after organiser Michael Eavis was overwhelmed watching a Led Zepplin open air concert, and was left with the overriding desire to re-create it in some form. Since this time the weekend festivities have exploded, with the likes of David Bowie, Radiohead and Sir Paul McCartney headlining over it’s 40 year history.

Sceptics wondered to the future of Festival in 2007, after Eavis stepped down form Worthy Farm duties, handing over the reigns to his daughter Emily. However Glastonbury still lined up as the premier UK festival, with just under 200,000 people attending last years event headlined by US rapper Jay-Z. This allayed fears that interest would wane due to the radical switch in performer, marking Emily Eavis’ first Glastonbury a roaring success.

Whether you’re a city slicker, classroom teacher or cider drinker, Glastonbury festival is the long weekend of the year where all pre-conceptions are dismissed and everyone embraces the notion of simply having a great time. It is also not just about the music, the quirky stalls and attractions make Glastonbury an unforgettably unique experience.

Tickets usually go on sale in March, however a limited supply are available now to pre-order, with a deposit of £50 required.
